Journal History
The Annals of Statistical Theory and Applications (ASTA) was established by the Professional Statisticians' Society of Nigeria (PSSN) to provide a dedicated scholarly platform for the dissemination of research in statistical theory, statistical methodology, computational statistics, and statistical applications.
The establishment of ASTA reflects the Society's commitment to strengthening statistical scholarship, promoting rigorous research, and providing researchers, academics, statisticians, and other professionals with a recognised platform for communicating advances in statistical science.
Establishment of the Journal
ASTA was founded in 2016 by the Professional Statisticians' Society of Nigeria.
The journal was established to address the need for a dedicated scholarly publication through which researchers and practitioners can communicate original contributions to statistical theory, methodological development, computational approaches, and the application of statistical methods to real-world problems.
Since its establishment, the journal has sought to promote scholarly communication within Nigeria and internationally and to support the development and application of statistical knowledge across academic, scientific, technological, economic, health, environmental, and social domains.
Development of the Journal
ASTA is published under the auspices of the Professional Statisticians' Society of Nigeria. The journal's development is guided by the Society's broader commitment to advancing the study, teaching, research, and professional practice of statistics.
The journal operates as a peer-reviewed, open-access publication, making its published research freely accessible to researchers, practitioners, students, policymakers, and other interested readers.
As the journal develops, ASTA is committed to strengthening its editorial processes, peer-review standards, digital publishing infrastructure, research-integrity practices, indexing and discoverability, and long-term preservation of the scholarly record.
